Practical Life Skills - French Caribbean Style - Take 1
A.) If you are in a 4 bedroom cliff slung remote mountain side home in the French Caribbean being shared by 6 teens/children and 4 Adults how many lights and appliances can be on and running before the entire circuit breaker shuts down? Ie? "short circuits"
Answer: Every bedroom, common room and bathroom light must be on. Washer must be on, dryer must be on, oven and microwave and electric stove top, refrigerator obviously. On, all on. If operating in full American style and abundance, the circuits will pop. Dead.
B.) If you decide to be less American and only run a few lights and appliances at the same time, how many can you run simultaeneoulsy with the oven?
Answer: None. Turns out you need to call Ludovic, the French houseboy in nice fitting worker pants to come replace the oven.
B.2) How many Frenchmen and how many days does is take to get an oven replaced in the French Caribbean when a local holiday falls on the same week?
Answer: 3 Frenchmen, 2 trucks, 3 visits, 2 working days, 1 day of pondering.
Bonus: They did supply charcoal in the mean time.
C.) If the water to the house is somehow turned off at the street, because some local someone had a need to do this without notice or warning, how many liters of water from the pool must be filled into buckets carried into the house to enable the toilettes to flush? (integers: There are 2 toilettes for 10 people.)
Extra Credit: Toilettes are European dual flush. You must be able to remove the back lid the way you assume you can in the US.
Answer: Don't try, don't bother. Leave the house for the day, you are in the French Caribbean. The water will be on when you return home.
D.) Try to work the oven. Go ahead. Get out Google Translator. Try.
D.2) Try to work the washer. Go ahead. Get out Google Translator. Try.
Bonus - Whoops. Wifi is down. No access to Google translator. Go out and enjoy the day, you are in the French Caribbean
Extra Credit: Does any of it matter?
Answer: No. House is a Zen Den. View is epic and beyond comprehension. There is no problemo and besides, Ludovic is here to help.
