Arrival
It was around 8:00 in the morning when our parents woke all of us up so that we would not miss our ferry for Îles Des Saintes. Most of us were tired but my sister, Catharine got up almost instantly and ate one waffle that was about the size of a square shaped hand that our host, Alice had made us before the trip. Minutes later, I woke up and made sure I had packed everything for the trip.
We all got in our car with our bags in the trunk, and went on our way.
By the time that we got to the ferry, not many people were waiting in line and our parents got some croissants for us so that we would not be too hungry, then after five minutes, we got on the ferry.
The trip to Îles Des Saintes was short, and wavy. Our parents got the middle seats in the corner, whereas, my siblings, me, and Christian (my friend) got the seats on the outside.
We had finally gotten to Îles Des Saintes, and it was glorious.
We all went to cafe and ordered sandwiches and played card games of presidents and spit. Then we started the walk to our apartment.
The Walk
The Walk to our house was about 20 minutes and on the way there was a LOT of animals. There seemed to be hundreds of crabs along the island and had to be about 100 chickens. Also, there was probably at least a fifty goats and twenty stray dogs around. There was a big mountain which probably had about half of the goats on it which is why I called it Goat Mountain.
Then, We had gotten home. We were about an hour early but it seemed to be fine because the people cleaning the house had already finished and we moved in. Our Mom had gone out to rent a golf cart and Laurie had fallen asleep on the bed closest to the door. After thirty minutes, it started to pour down rain. And, this is not the kind of “it started drizzling and then it went to big rain”, In this case, the weather went from drizzling and then it literally just started to pour down rain as fast as it could, and as hard as it could. Later, Laurie got a text from my mom saying that the golf cart place was closed and she had to walk home in the rain. We were stuck with no golf cart, inside.
My mom soon got home wet and we rested for a long time doing nothing until we went to a restaurant for lunch. The best thing about the restaurant was the accros, which we all loved except for my brother Redwood for no reason. After lunch we went back to the house and stayed there for a long time until dinner.
The next day, me and Redwood planned to go to a restaurant where there was working wifi (no wifi at house).
Then after a while, we went to a beach for a long time where there was a fire which we brought back to life and then after a while went swimming. We decided to go to a small island, and started swimming. The first minute was mostly just sand, but then, seaweed came around. And after about two minutes, sea urchins started to appear. I was mostly swimming above them, but then the water became too shallow to swim in and the sea urchins were everywhere. We could not get out. We were trapped. Christian found a way to get past them but we could not, and eventually, I found my way out and then helped my siblings. We got to the island looked around and then went back. We realized that there was actually a path to the island the whole time without seaweed, or sea urchins, and we took that path back to land.
After, we hung out for a while and soon took the ferry back to Guadeloupe.
THINGS WE LEARNED:
Always bring an umbrella to places where it can rain
Animals are everywhere
There are many sea urchins in the Caribbean Sea (specifically Tripneustes ventricosus)
Accros’ are really good
